North East Fabrication case study - From WhatsApp to website
Wednesday, 18 June 2025
Have you ever built something or provided a service to customers without ever speaking to them direct? Well we built a whole website this way!
Andrew over at North East Fabrication got in touch through WhatsApp looking for help with his website. Usually we like to hop on a call or Zoom to get more information, but as he was constantly on and off his welding projects, he asked if we could keep the conversation purely on WhatsApp and then he could respond when he got a free moment.
Within a few hours of chat we had a signed off proposal and then we wrote content, collected images, generated case studies, all through WhatsApp, having never spoken in person.
Here's the scoop on the website.

What was the problem?
NE Fabrication had an existing website, but the content was very sparse with just a quick bullet list of their services. The design was basic and didn't really showcase the fantastic work that they do. You couldn't tell if they handled big commercial jobs, small domestic ones, or both. Nothing shouted experience or built trust. And to top it off, it was nowhere to be found in Google search results.
What we did
North East Fabrication had a few service areas that they covered for different customers.
Commercial Welding - For large scale projects
Domestic - For smaller jobs mainly around residential
Fabrication workshop - Being able to construct and fabricate custom steel components

What we realised quickly is that the content and tone of voice needed to be different for each service. When showcasing their commercial service offering, where these could be multi-million pound projects, we needed to mainly discuss experience, skills, safety accreditations while focusing on cost savings through using North East Fabrication.
For domestic, the language was adjusted to better suit talking to tradespeople with the content adjusted to showcasing what jobs North East Fabrication can help with and that they are a local company.
Having their own Fabrication Workshop is a huge bonus as not many welding and fabrication companies have these and it means all tasks can be kept within the company.

Showing their work
One of the first things we really wanted to do was help show the kind of jobs they handle day to day. So we added a Case Studies section where we can drop in photos and a quick write-up when they finish something. That way people can actually see what the team does out in the real world. It's also a handy way to keep the site ticking over with fresh content.
We have recently had our website built by the team at wayfresh. From start to finish they have been great. We wanted the web design done by a team that could guide us through the process and would stay with us updating the site and that is definitely what we got. Would definitely recommend.

What we built in
- Mobile-friendly design that works on site or in the office
- Simple layout so people can find what they need fast
- Video and strong imagery to showcase what they do
- Fully written content that is different for each audience
- Proper page titles and descriptions so Google knows what it's looking at
- Local SEO bits baked in to help them show up in North East searches
- Clear quote buttons and enquiry forms to bring in new jobs
The old website for North Fabrication was simply not up to the job both for their customers or Google, so it was great to scrub this and put a new fully functional website in it's place. Although we only communicated with Andrew over WhatsApp chat, his communication and the speed he got back to are questions was excellent.

What's next
As North East Fabrication still get a large amount of their work through word of mouth, Andrew and his team are happy to handle the digital marketing going forward through their own social media channels. But each month we'll be keeping an eye on what they are up to, giving suggestions and being a sounding board to anything ideas they have.
As they just want to get their heads down on their own job, we also have a little maintenance plan in place where we will handle uploading new case studies to their site on their behalf. A nice “done for you” approach instead of “do it yourself”.
