Light Years Ahead are a specialist lighting company that fit and supply lighting solutions to commercial and specialist environments including high risk areas such as prisons and hospitals. Wayfresh were already been involved with another web design project that was linked to LYA for the same parent company (Daro Group) and so we were very excited about the opportunity to work on a new website which is a bit different to normal.
The Light Years Ahead product range is quite niche and their clients are also not the normal environment most would expect lighting suppliers to supply to. It was a project that was to be focussed into their three core sectors for the lighting which are Secure, Custodial and High Risk. The original website did a reasonable job of presenting the information, but it lacked quite a bit when it came to the actual products. Having a limited CMS and a complicated admin process to update and manage the product range. The old website also just overwhelmed any potential customer with huge amounts of technical information about each product.
Once we went over the needs of the new lighting website it was agreed that the products would be almost the main focus of the whole site bringing in the ranges onto each sector page (which initially wasn't the plan). The initial wireframes for the website development have each sector page as a pure information point pulling out key products. It was later agreed to show all products for each sector on these pages giving users everything they needed to see with the minimum of clicks to access information.
The team at wayfresh also guided the client down the more minimal product view page, stripping back the heavy technical data and providing clear imagery with core information and immediate call to action buttons. Then subsuquently after analysing website Heatmap information has show the website users are using minimal clicks to read and then enquire on each product, reducing page bounce rates and increasing leads.
The ultimate goal for all of our websites apart from making them look great is conversions.
